An Afternoon of Jazz- Frack Free Denton Fundraiser

Internationally acclaimed jazz artists, trumpeter Marvin Stamm (www.marvinstamm.com) and pianist Bill Mays (www.billmays.net) will headline an afternoon of jazz to benefit the Denton Drilling Awareness Group’s Frack Free Denton campaign to reclaim our right to the local control recently abolished by HB40. Local control allowed Denton’s residents to ban gas well fracking in our city.

The event will be held on Sunday, June 14, at Dan’s Silverleaf from 3-5PM.

Stamm is a graduate of North Texas State University (now UNT) and was awarded the Distinguished Alumnus award in 2004.

His musical associations include Benny Goodman, Frank Sinatra, Paul McCartney, Stan Kenton, Woody Herman, the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Jazz Orchestra.

As first call in the New York recording studios, Stamm has recorded on albums for artists such as Quincy Jones, Michel Legrand, Paul Desmond, George Benson, and Patrick Williams.

Stamm’s frequent musical collaborator, pianist Bill Mays, established himself in Los Angeles as a first call studio artist and vocal accompanist of such artists as Sarah Vaughn, Dionne Warwick , Al Jarreau, and Frank Sinatra.

Bill moved to New York in 1984 where he has played with Phil Woods, bassist Ron Carter, Clark Terry, Gerry Mulligan, and Mel Lewis amongst many more.

Bill currently tours with his trio with Martin Wind on bass and Matt Wilson on drums, composes for ensembles such as the WDR Radio Big Band in Cologne,Germany, and writes incidental music for many films, including Robert DeNiro’s TRIBECA..

Marvin and Bill will be joined by James Driscoll on bass and Ed Soph on drums.
