DESCRIPTION:**DALLAS LGBTQIA AND ALLIES- WE NEED YOUR VOICES**  \nThe Trump administration sent a “guidance letter” via the Justice and Education Departments to schools across the country announcing that President Obama’s guidelines to protect the rights of transgender students are “withdrawn and rescinded.”\nThis action leaves transgender students open to **official** discrimination by school authorities and others\, and is unacceptable. Trans students in Texas are particularly at risk for active discrimination by local school authorities across the state. Our governor\, lieutenant governor\, and attorney general seek to make such discrimination legal by passing laws that deny safety\, privacy\, and dignity to all transgender Texans in public schools.\nJoin us at 7pm at Belo Garden in response to this attack on the youngest and most vulnerable members of our community! Join our message to the Trump administration\, Gov. Abbot\, Lt. Gov. Patrick and Attorney Gen. DESCRIPTION:Interested in writing letters to incarcerated trans or gender nonconforming persons\, but need some guidance and encouragement? Want to write but not sure what to say? Or afraid that you might not know how to help someone advocate for their safety or healthcare needs? Or maybe you would rather write while in a social setting\, sharing space with friends and community? Then join us for the Prison Letter Writers Workshop! \nTPI’s Prison Services Committee writes letters to incarcerated trans persons\, but we wanted to provide additional opportunity to support our siblings behind the walls. If you want to learn and try writing someone\, maybe just a one-off letter of support and encouragement without committing to write more\, or see what it is like before committing\, this is a time to do that! \nWe’ll talk a little about our work overall with incarcerated persons and some of the individuals we are connected with. And we’ll do our best to answer any questions you may have. \nIf you are interested in writing a letter or just learning about this work\, stop by around 6pm or later (we close about 9pm) and chat with others and consider writing a letter! \nAlso\, we are considering moving this to Saturday. If you would like to participate and a Saturday meeting would be better or worse for you\, let us know whether or not to move the time: nell@tpride.org.

SUMMARY:President's Day Weekend March and Rally - In support of all Immigrants and Refugees.
DESCRIPTION:This President’s Day Weekend\, 2017\, join In Solidarity as we unite to march against President Donald J. Trump’s unconstitutional\, and wholly un-American ban on immigrants and refugees in the United States of America.  \nOn Saturday\, February 18th\, we will stand together and march and rally in order to oppose this selective ban on immigrants and refugees trying to obtain legal entry and safe asylum in the U.S. As many of us here know\, refugees\, on average\, face anywhere from two to three years of vigorous and arduous screenings from top U.S. intelligence agencies\, including the FBI\, CIA\, and the Department of Homeland Security. These people \,the vast majority of whom are women and children\, pose less of a threat to American’s safety than homegrown terrorists disillusioned with the government. President Trump’s executive order barring the entry of immigrants and refugees from certain countries\, under the pretense of “protecting national security”\, is both highly questionable and extremely counter-productive: these orders not only serve to further marginalize and disenfranchise innocent men\, women\, and children\, but they also serve the dual purpose of acting as a means of fueling propaganda for terrorist groups to further promote the idea that the U.S. is leading a war against Islam.  \nIt is time for us stand up\, raise our voices high and show our brothers and sisters\, not only our Muslim brothers and sisters\, but of all races or religions\, that we do not agree with the xenophobic and bigoted direction in which our country is headed. America was built upon the backs of immigrants and it THRIVES because of immigrants.  \nWe will march from Dallas City Hall plaza to the JFK Memorial Plaza (on Main and Commerce streets) at 10AM\, where we will then hold a benefit rally to stand in solidarity with our immigrant and refugee brothers and sisters. DESCRIPTION:Come and learn about our Prison Services Committee\, doing work to support and advocate for incarcerated trans persons across Texas.  \nOne object of all our committees is to grow participation and encourage leadership through support\, encouragement\, and community participation! We hope to rotate facilitators to give people experience planning and running meetings\, with help from committee leaders when needed. \nIn Prison Services\, we are currently writing letters and taking on other tasks to support incarcerated trans persons. One task is design an publication of two texts written by incarcerated members on surviving prison in general\, and surviving solitary confinement.  \nWe’ll be teaching the basics about letter writing and coming together to support each other with advice and debriefing (some of the letters and situations can be very heavy and emotionally challenging) so we all help each other do this better. \nPlease post questions or suggestions if you have any! \nGuests are welcome; come out and learn! We really need help with writing letters\, so if you can come help\, please do!
