SUMMARY:Grinch and Coal for Rep. Hurd
DESCRIPTION:The Grinch Who Stole Christmas will make a special appearance to personally thank Rep. Hurd for voting in favor of the final version of the Tax Cut and Jobs Act. \nThe legislation repeals part of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and forces $25 billion automatic cuts to Medicare annually to give trillions in tax breaks to the richest households and multi-national corporations like Apple\, Pfizer\, and Wells Fargo. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) predicts that the bill would result in 13 million more uninsured people and premium increases of up to 10% for millions. \nThe Republicans’ $1.4 trillion dollar final tax package provides most of its benefits to high-income households and foreign investors while raising taxes on many low- and middle-income Americans. The legislation will force cuts to Medicaid\, Medicare and the ACA and countless other public services to finance the tax giveaway to the wealthy and big business. In 2019 more than half the tax breaks in the bill will go the richest 5 percent of taxpayers. The richest one percent of taxpayers will receive an average tax cut of more than $55\,000\, more than the average annual income for a middle class family. \nConstituents will deliver coal to Representative Hurd\, share their stories and how cuts to Medicare\, Medicare and/or the loss of ACA will negatively impact them AND ask him to commit to protecting Medicaid and Medicare in the new year!

SUMMARY:SPEAK OUT Against Fetal Tissue Burial Rules
DESCRIPTION:The Texas Health and Human Services Commission is holding a hearing to take public comment on the proposed embryonic and fetal tissue burial and cremation rules. These are similar to rules promulgated by Governor Greg Abbott last summer and despite an ongoing legal challenge\, the Legislature codified the rules into state law this summer. \nRequiring burial or cremation of fetal tissue is cruel and medically unnecessary and serves only to stigmatize people seeking abortion care. Make your voice heard on Monday by testifying in person or submitting written comments. Each person will be given 3 minutes to speak. Click here for instruction on how to submit written comments: https://hhs.texas.gov/about-hhs/communications-events/meetings-events/2017/12/11/proposed-new-rules-regarding-disposition-embryonic-fetal-tissue-remains
