Connect. Organize. Change.
We have had this idea for quite some time, and think a group supporting survivors could be a great benefit to the community. We are opening our space to this at this time without too much preconcieved notion of where it will go. We would like to identify at least one and possibly two or three trans persons with experience moderating discussions around sensitive topics like this. This is NOT meant to be counseling sessions as there are professional services who can provide much better care in such settings — this is meant to be peer-to-peer discussion and healing and empowerment.
Violence can be defined in many ways, from physical attacks to the general and pervasive social violence that permeates our lives on a daily basis. We won’t define limits to violence at this time, but instead will open the space to anyone who feels they have experienced violence in any way and needs to talk about that experience and oppression.
Please stop by our community space if you would like to be involved in this program. Alternately, contact Nell at nell@tpride.org or 214-394-9835 to discuss involvement in the group.
IF YOU HAVEN’T BEEN TO OUR LOCATION: we are located on the second floor of a building with offices, and the most prominent sign on the outside of the building is “Mercy Family Clinic,” near the intersection of Illinois and Nicholson, next to El Rancho supermarket. This link should take you directly to our building: https://goo.gl/maps/743SKeioaK12
