No More Politics as Usual: Socialism in the Air

2015 ended with a disturbing cycle of public violence and racist fear-mongering. It has come in different forms: a regional civil war and massive refugee crisis in the Middle East; terror attacks by ISIS on the streets of Paris and by right-wingers against a Planned Parenthood clinic and a Black Lives Matter protest here in the U.S.; a mass shooting in San Bernardino; and the biggest wave of violence against Muslims since he days after the September 11 attacks.

But the horrors of the past months shouldn’t stop us from remembering 2015 was also a year of resistance to war, poverty, and oppression. There were numerous waves of mass demonstrations, such as the uprising against police brutality in Baltimore-and even when there were not visible resistance there was a desire to understand the world and how to change it among a growing number of people.
