Film Screening, ‘Don’t Frack With Denton’ and Community Story Sharing

June 28, 2016 @ 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm

The documentary, ‘Don’t Frack with Denton’ tells the story of our community fighting to defend our neighborhoods from fracking. Following the film there will be a short Q&A with the film makers.

This film screening is part of a larger story-sharing collaboration and education effort with ‘Conversations from the Open Road’, a citizen journalism group from Virginia. Their group has reached out to Frack Free Denton and other frontline communities facing environmental and social injustices. They are here to hear our stories of what it’s like to live with fracking in our backyards. For all who are willing, there will be time set aside after the Q&A for story-sharing with their group.

We invite you to come listen and share your stories of how fracking has affected your life and the ways in which you have resisted and organized for change in your community. To be clear, this is neither a strategy meeting, a debate, or a technical explanation of the process of fracking. This is a time set aside to foster sharing and listening to one another’s experiences and to add to the understanding of the humanity within these struggles. Our community here has brought great tenacity, creativity and perserverance to this issue. We hope you will come and share how you have been a part of this journey!

For a better understanding of the vibe of the night, here is more about the group from Virginia’s philosophy in their words:

* We believe that learning from and listening to people is the cornerstone of a compassionate understanding of our world.
* Learning through Experience endures.
* Social and digital media is the most engaging, accessible, and democratic medium to share knowledge – and we love it!
* Traveling is Transformative
* There is no single story, to any person and place. We are not shaping a documentary, but a collection of mixed-media shorts that reflect our experience of the complexity of a place and issue
* We are NOT looking for answers, but rather the humanity within every struggle and inspiration.
* Being a Citizen requires empathy, gained in knowledge and experience of the issues effecting our community.
* Genuine Knowledge comes from probing the complexity within every issue.
* Traveling, creating and learning collaboratively is an electric experience, and worth more than an individual pursuit.
* It is time to be Content-Creators, not just passive recipients of knowledge.
