Connect. Organize. Change.
Take Back the Night is an event that was started in the 1970s due to sexual assault and gendered violence. Every year on the last Thursday of April, Sexual Assault Awareness Month, the national Shine Your Light Foundation, formerly known as Take Back the Night (TBTN) holds a nation-wide event called 10 Points of Light to Take Back the Night. Each year they designate ten locations circling the United States to simultaneously hold a march and a vigil to show support for survivors, and for unity in our commitment to ending sexual violence in all forms.
This year, the University of North Texas has been selected by the national TBTN organization to hold our very own 10 Points of Light! UNT’s Take Back the Night will take place during sexual assault awareness month on April 28th from 5:00-8:30pm at the Library Mall. The event will consist of a tabling fair with resources and activities, a march around campus, guest speakers, giveaways, and the overall empowerment of survivors of sexual assault. There is no cost to attend. Please participate in this event to bring awareness and education to this serious issue.
